Anytime a writer/poet has access to a photographer who gives permission to use her photos, there is room for negotiation. In my case, I ask very nicely for use of those photos that aren’t slated for other purposes, or which are extra shots of a specific subject. In this case, that artist is my friend and surrogate-sister, BJ Jones.
She’s an avid photographer with an eye for fantastic shots, including those with the oddest details, which make for some great shots. I’m privileged to get dozens of images for my use, especially for poems. Better still is knowing that on photo-shoots, she’ll take shots of specific subjects just for me because they strike my poetic fancy. Not every poet is that fortunate.
Today I chose one from a favorite haunt of mine, Avalanche Falls in Glacier Park. I hope you enjoy it.
